Depending on the amount of past appointments in your FirstClass calendar, it may take up to 20 minutes to migrate your FirstClass calendar to Google.  It is recommended that you perform this task on a computer that has a wired network connection, so that it runs faster and there is less chance of losing your connection during this process.

1.  In FirstClass, click on the "Calendar" tab to open your calendar.

2.  On the File menu, choose Export

3.  Export your calendar as an "Outlook/CSV" file.  Although Google Calendar will accept an iCalendar/.ics file, if there are problems with the export then we will need it to be an Outlook/CSV file in order to fix it.

4.  Save your calendar to a location such as your H-drive.  This give you the added benefit of having the file as a backup later should you need it.  Give the file a meaningful name, such as "FirstClass Calendar Export".

5.  Watch the progress bar as your calendar is packaged up.  This could take up to 10 minutes depending on how many items you have in your calendar.  You will not be able to interact with your FirstClass mailbox while this export is taking place.

Note that you can click the black triangle next to the words at the bottom of the window, "Details, Statistics".  This will show you additional information such as the number of items on your calendar.

If you get an error stating that "The object is read-only" - please contact IT to correct a permissions issue.

6.  When the export of your FirstClass calendar is complete, the window will close.

7.  Go to your Google Calendar, at https://calendar.google.com.  You now have a choice: do you want to import the calendar items directly into your Google Calendar, or do you want to import them into a separate calendar?

a.  If you want to import them into your primary calendar, continue on to step 8.

b.  If you want to import them into a separate calendar layer, you will need to create that now.  Click on the small triangle to the right of "My Calendars" and choose "Create new calendar".  Give a title to the calendar and click Save.

8.  Time to import into Google.  Click on the Gear / Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.  From the drop-down menu, choose Settings.  Click on the Calendars tab at the top of the next window.  Then click the "Import Calendars" link in the middle of the screen.

9.  Click the Choose File button and locate your FirstClass calendars export file.

10.  On the Calendar drop-down, select which calendar will receive the imported items.  If you leave the drop-down on your name, then it will go to your primary calendar.  If you created a separate calendar layer for your imported FirstClass items, click the drop-down to choose that calendar's name.  When you are ready, click Import.

11.  Your import file will be processed.  This may take up to 10 minutes, but usually no more than 2.  If you receive an error that states that your iCal/CSV file could not be imported, please contact the IT Department to fix a CSV file issue.

12.  When your calendar is successfully imported, you will see a message indicating success, and how many items were imported.  Click OK.
